1. A Box of Waleeco's

The consolation prize for losing contestants on the pre-game Jerry O’Leary radio show in the 40’s and 50’s. Jerry was famed for the dreaded “Who Am I” questions where the contestant had to guess a player’s identity. For each correct answer the contestant would advance one base until he or she had to deal with the aformentioned “Who Am I” question in order to hit a home run. When Jerry announced a “Who Am I” the crowd surrounding the microphone would give a loud “oooooo” acknowledging the difficulty of the pending “Who Am I”. Winners got 25 silver dollars, I believe. Losers got a box of Waleeco Coconut Bars, a wonderful chocolate/coconut mixture and a forerunner of the Mounds Bar.

2. wooooooo000000OOOOO

The sound made by Red Sox fans over the decades when a foul ball hit up the home plate screen commenced rolling down the home plate screen. The sound rose in cescendo as the ball got lower on the screen, finally ending ending when the ball came off the lip of the screen to be caught by the ball boy. Alas, this wonderful tradition began to fade in the 90’s and was finally delivered a death blow in the 2005 season when the screen was altered so that foul balls rolling up the screen went through a gap created at the top so that the ball instead of rolling back down the screen, now falls through the gap into the crowd 15 or so rows behind home plate.
